Jon's Volley Blog and More

Back at bayhead

Jackson is one month old. If I could only put in to words how incredible being a father is i would. It is everything I hoped it would be and so much more.

Today is also my first day back playing volleyball since last summer. A good 6-7 months off. On first day back I was the first to make it to Bayhead as I only work until 4:30p now. So I decided to do some sprints to warm-up. Sounded good at he time. And I sure it was. However I was pretty winded by time people started to arrive. I’m sure no one will believe but I am the heaviest I have ever been. About 7-8 pounds more then last summer. I like to say I’m fat, Laura reminds me that is not true. Then we agree that I’m not in my tip-top physical condition. Hoefully after a few weeks of running around the sand the pounds will just fall off.

On to the volleyball itself. Rob ended up playing withthe girls leaving the guys short a person. Frantically all the boys were calling everyone for a fourth travis ended up coming out this extra time gave me a little extra warm-up time i was actually impressed i could sort-of spike a ball. Game 1 was Travis and mike Kuk against brown and I.n brown and I were able to pull off the win at 23-21 for my first win of the year in my first game o the year.

Travis decided to leave so it was good we had another guy on the way. His name is Migel. He’s BIG, maybe 6’6″ish. Brown dumped me, rightfully, and played with Migel against Kuk and I. We lost the next two games somewhere in the 15-18 range in both games. Migel was eating us up with his serves, not aces. Just we never got good sets or spikes. I kept putting mike in jail. Nobody likes a tight set against a big guy unless hour name is Jon Sundquist.

All in all, not a bad first night. I didn’t make a fool of myself. I was sort of competetive. And I actually served pretty well.

MOP – Migel
For being our fourth after Travis left. Also for being really big and keeping us off balances with float serves and jumpers.
